When Jaime first contacted me about a family session she made sure I was aware that her son, Trevor, has Autism. We talked about how I have experience working as a teacher for autistic students so I was familiar with how to handle some of the situations that may arise. Flash forward to our photo session day. Trevor got out of the car and seemed a little shy for the first 3 seconds then he ran up to me and gave me a hug. Ok, this kid already knows the way to my heart! But really, he just thought my name was Mickey, and that I was somehow associated with Mickey and Minnie Mouse. Hey, I’ll take what I can get! So for the rest of the session he called me Mickey, and we totally went with it. We spent the next hour playing in the forest and snuggling with mom and dad and laughing a ton! Trevor has the most infectious laugh I have ever heard. He also thought I was hilarious so another brownie point for him 😉
I didn’t realize at the time how much this session was affecting me, but it was. As I was going through their photos, my eyes began to tear up. It didn’t matter that he has Autism, not even a little bit. (Let’s be honest he was more well behaved then most of the kids I work with haha) He just showed up to our session and had fun. He has the biggest heart I’ve ever seen and he’s not even 5 yet. I hope that never changes in him because he is one of the most beautiful human beings I’ve ever had the pleasure to meet 🙂
Oh and the last picture at the bottom of his parents, yeah he took that himself.
